Privacy Policy

Overview

This policy explains what information Hola Cabo collects when you use holacabomx.com, why we collect it, and how it is handled. We collect the minimum needed to run the site and respond to messages — we do not sell your information.

Information we collect

Site analytics: when analytics is turned on (see "Cookies and your privacy choices" below), we use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand which pages people visit and how the site is used in aggregate. This is standard, anonymized usage data, not the contents of anything submitted to us.

Information submitted through our forms: when a visitor uses our Contact, Advertise, or Claim or Update Your Listing forms, we collect the name, email, message, and any other details entered, such as a business name or photo links.

Newsletter signups: subscribing to our newsletter shares the email address entered at signup.

Technical information: the site also receives error reports and page-performance measurements, and records whether form submissions succeed or fail, as described under "Measurement that does not depend on your choices" below.

How we use information

Submitted contact details are used to reply to a message, follow up on a listing claim, or send the newsletter a visitor signed up for. Aggregate analytics data is used to understand what content is useful and to improve the site. Error reports and performance measurements are used to find and fix problems with the site.

Data retention

We keep information only as long as it's needed for the purpose it was collected. Messages and form submissions are kept while we're actively responding to a request or a listing claim, and are removed once that's resolved. Newsletter email addresses are kept until a subscriber unsubscribes. Aggregate analytics data does not identify anyone individually, and Google Analytics (GA4) keeps its data for 14 months. A visitor's privacy choice is remembered for 1 year.

Data sharing

We never sell or share submitted information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. Form submissions are delivered to our team through a private notification channel so we can respond, and are not published or shared beyond that unless explicit consent was given — for example, the Claim or Update Your Listing form asks permission to publish any photos submitted along with a claim.

Spam and abuse prevention

Our forms use rate limiting to prevent automated abuse: a request-counting service tracks how many submissions arrive from the same visitor in a short window and blocks excess attempts. This protects the forms from spam without requiring any extra information from real visitors.

Cookies and your privacy choices

The site loads Google Analytics (GA4) directly. When analytics is on, Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish visitors and measure usage across visits.

Where we ask first: if you are in the European Economic Area (the 27 EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway), the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or Quebec, or if we cannot tell where you are, the site shows a banner asking for your choice. No analytics or advertising measurement runs until you choose. Everywhere else, analytics and advertising measurement are on by default, and you can switch either one off at any time.

Your choices: outside those regions, a small cookie icon at the bottom right of every page opens a panel with separate Analytics and Advertising choices. In every region, a "Your Privacy Choices" link in the site footer opens the same panel. You can change your choices at any time. Analytics covers Google Analytics measurement of how the site is used. Advertising covers whether Google may use data collected on this site for advertising, including advertising measurement and personalized ads.

What we store: the site saves your choice in your browser, in local storage and in a cookie, for 1 year. A small cookie also records your country or region, so the site can apply the right behavior for your location.

Switching analytics off does not remove cookies that Google Analytics has already stored in your browser. Cookies can be limited or cleared through browser settings at any time.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, the site treats it as a request to opt out of advertising measurement and sharing. It does this in every region, and you do not need to sign in or take any other step.

Some browsers also send a 'Do Not Track' signal. There is no common industry standard yet for how a site should respond to it, so our site does not currently change its behavior based on that signal.

Measurement that does not depend on your choices

The Analytics and Advertising choices do not control the error reports and the site's own performance and form measurements described here. We use them to keep the site working.

Error reports: if something on the site stops working, an error-monitoring service we use receives a technical report about the error so we can find and fix it. For a sample of page loads, that service also receives performance information.

Page performance: every page sends our server a few page-speed measurements, such as how quickly it loads and responds, along with the page address and the time. The page address includes any search words or filters in it. Our server writes these measurements to its logs.

Form outcomes: when someone submits the Contact, Advertise, or newsletter form, the site records that the submission was attempted and whether it succeeded or failed, together with the name of the form but never what was entered. The site passes these records to a private team notification channel when one is set up.

How we protect your information

We use standard safeguards — such as encrypted connections (HTTPS) and limited internal access to submitted data — to help protect the information sent to us. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep what we hold reasonably protected.

Your rights and choices

A visitor may ask us to access, correct, or delete information already submitted, or unsubscribe from the newsletter, at any time by reaching out below.

Choices about analytics and advertising measurement can be changed at any time using the "Your Privacy Choices" link in the site footer, as described under "Cookies and your privacy choices" above.

Visitors in a region with its own privacy law — for example the EU/EEA under the GDPR, or California under the CCPA — may have additional rights over their personal information, such as the right to know what is held about them or to object to certain uses. We honor requests consistent with those rights on a best-effort basis, given the limited information we collect.

Children's privacy

Hola Cabo is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we learn that a child has submitted information through our forms, we will delete it.

International visitors

Hola Cabo is based in Mexico. Some of the services we use to run the site — including analytics and form-delivery tools — may process or store information in other countries, including the United States. Using the site means a visitor's information may be transferred to and processed in those countries.
