Why go

Los Cabos' horseback outfits trade the resort pool for real terrain — desert arroyos, an estuary trail, and long stretches of open sand — and the range runs from a 45-minute beginner ride to a three-day ranch retreat, almost all of it at small, family-run operations rather than a hotel activities desk.

Choosing a horseback ride in Los Cabos

The main decision is length and terrain, not which ranch is "best" — most of these outfits are small, family-run operations with a genuine local reputation, and the real differences are in ride length and what's included. Cerritos Cowboy has by far the widest range, from a 45-minute kids' ride up to a 3-day retreat; Cuadra San Francisco and Rancho Carisuva both offer a tight, well-defined set of 1-2 hour trail options if you just want a solid ride without a lot of planning.

Almost none of these ranches list prices online. Budget time to call, WhatsApp, or message ahead — same-day availability isn't guaranteed, especially for sunset slots.

Cerritos Cowboy – Most Ride Options, Beach to Multi-Day

Place

Cerritos Cowboy

Runs guided horseback rides along the beach and desert near Playa Los Cerritos, from short family rides to multi-day trips.

Based at Playa Los Cerritos, Cerritos Cowboy runs the widest range of any outfit in this guide: a 45-minute Little Buckaroos ride for kids 12 and under along the shoreline, a 1.5-hour Beach and Nature Reserve ride through a desert arroyo down to the sea, a 3-hour Half Day Tour with a small lunch included, an 8-hour Full Day Adventure for confident riders covering 18km of beach plus arroyo and hill terrain (with coffee, pastries, and a 3-course meal at The Hitching Post restaurant), and a 3-day Luxury Ranch Retreat with a private chef and beachfront rooms, built for groups, weddings, or corporate retreats. Rides depart daily at 9am, noon, and 3pm; guides work in English and Spanish. Prices aren't posted — book by phone or through their site.

Cuadra San Francisco – Hill, Beach & Canyon Trails in the Tourist Corridor

Place

Cuadra San Francisco

A family-owned equestrian center in Cabo Real (Tourist Corridor) offering guided desert and beach horseback rides.

A family-owned equestrian center in Cabo Real offering private, guided trail rides: 1-hour options up a hill trail toward Venado Blanco for flora and fauna, or along the beach at Cabo Real; 2-hour options mix hills and beach, or head into the canyon at Arroyo San Carlos. They also run riding lessons for all skill levels and a horse-drawn carriage service. No prices listed on their site — reach them by phone/WhatsApp or email to book.

Rancho Carisuva – Beach Rides Plus a Turtle-Release Program at Migriño

Place

Rancho Carisuva

Horseback-riding ranch at Migriño Beach (addressed under Cabo San Lucas) offering guided beach and desert horseback rides plus a sea-turtle-release conservation program.

At Playa Migriño, Rancho Carisuva's Pacific Horseback Tour rides private, untouched beach before heading into desert and canyon trail. The ranch also runs ATV tours, an ATV-and-horseback combo, and a Burro Hiking Safari, and hosts a sea-turtle-release conservation program that helps hatchlings reach the water — worth asking about if the timing lines up with your visit. Open daily 7am–5pm.

More Ranches Worth a Look

Three more active, well-reviewed outfits worth knowing about — Rancho San Cristóbal's own site was down when this guide was checked, so book it via a third-party site or by phone:

Place

Rancho San Cristóbal

Desert adventure ranch outside Cabo San Lucas offering ATV/UTV off-road tours, camel rides, horseback riding, and a sea-turtle-release conservation stop, with tequila tasting and food afterward.

Place

Rancho Animas

A family-run horseback riding outfit near Las Ánimas offering guided beach and estuary trail rides.

Place

Bonanza Horse Riding

A family-owned horseback riding operator on Boulevard Mijares offering guided beach and estuary trail rides.

Planning Notes

Book direct when you can
Most of these are small, family-run ranches without live online booking — a phone call or WhatsApp message is often the only way to confirm a slot and price
Morning vs. sunset
Morning departures avoid the worst heat; sunset rides are popular at ranches that offer them, so book ahead
Footwear
Closed-toe shoes are the norm for horseback riding generally — confirm with your outfit when booking

Before You Book

None of the ranches in this guide post fixed prices on their own sites, so treat any price you see on a third-party booking platform as a starting point, not a guarantee — confirm directly with the outfit. If a site is unreachable (Rancho San Cristóbal's was down at last check), its Google Maps listing and phone number are the more reliable way in.
